Farting- Why it Happens-How to Prevent it

Various foods we eat will cause it more than others but the biggest reason is not chewing our food properly.

This is not a glamorous subject to think about or talk about but unfortunately at one time or another it affects us all. As humans we all have the same plumbing and it works the same way. Yes, even women pass gas no matter how attractive she may look.

Some green foods like broccoli and cabbage seem to be worse at aggravating our intestines and the reason is because they need to be broken down more to digest. When we don’t chew our food enough it sits in our stomach, ferments and causes gases to build up. These gases have to be expelled and this causes flatulence.

Digestion starts in our mouth; it is why we have teeth. Chewing our food thoroughly not only helps digestion but also helps us lose weight or stay thin. When we use our teeth and take our time we give our stomach enough notice to realize it is full. When we are full we stop eating--- usually. It’s a win, win situation.

The number of times you chew isn’t really important the main thing is to chew until it is mush.

When we eat fast we also swallow more air, which in turn causes more bloating and more wind in our intestines… it has to go somewhere.

Baking soda will help with some foods such as beans. Put a teaspoon, or so depending on how much you are cooking, in the pot before cooking pinto or any other legumes and you will eliminate the musical quality of this protein. This also works with broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts or other gaseous vegetable that gives you grief. If you steam them just put the baking soda in the water.

Ginger is a good natural remedy for any stomach upset such as nausea, acid reflux, vomiting and bloating from gas. You can eat it in foods or drink ginger tea. Much better than taking medications.

Dairy is another food group that is guilty of causing us stress. We are not calves and were never intended to drink cow’s milk or eat its by products. Seventy percent of Native Americans and Africans and ninety percent of Asian people cannot digest it. After generations of consuming cheese and milk many people of European decent can but does that mean they should?

Humans were intended to drink human milk and cows are supposed to drink cows milk.

I could go on and on about the evils of dairy products- ear and tonsil infections, asthma, stomach irritations and childhood diabetes but we’ll save that for another blog.

So slow down, chew your food well, your stomach will thank you and so will the people around you.

Very informative hub. We have care with anything we ate. I heard this many times that we have to chew our food every time we eat, at least thirty times. This is good for our stomach, right. Good work, Pamela. I give my vote to you. Cheers...

Love and peace,

Thanks, prasetio. Sometimes we get in a hurry and don't chew properly. We all need a reminder of what Mom told us.
